The Staff Team

Who looks after Blockville, what each staff rank does, and how staff work with players.

#Who are the staff?

Blockville's staff are volunteers who keep the server friendly and fair. You'll see their rank next to their name in chat and the tab list. There are four ranks, and each one adds responsibility on top of the one before.

Rank In short
Guide Welcomes and helps players. The starting point for staff.
Mod Handles rule-breaking on their own, with temporary punishments.
SrMod Reviews punishment decisions and backs up the Mods.
Admin Runs the network and handles the most serious cases.

#The people behind Blockville

MadG
Co-Founder · Community Advisor

The heart of Blockville's community. MadG shapes how the server looks and feels: a huge share of the cosmetics, from tags and hats to wings and balloons, and the everyday community life that makes players want to stay. As Community Advisor, MadG keeps the team pointed at what players actually enjoy.

Evan52098
Co-Founder · Staff Advisor · Lead Network Developer

The builder behind the network. Evan52098 writes the plugin that powers Blockville: your Box, the economy, progression, quests and the tools staff use, and keeps the whole network running day and night. As Staff Advisor, Evan also guides and supports the staff team.

Lemmy209
Technical Admin · Network Developer

The one keeping the engine room humming. Lemmy209 looks after the technical side of the network behind the scenes, so everything you play on stays up and running smoothly.

#What each rank does

#Guide

The entry-level role, built around safety, trust and helping people. Guides answer questions, point new players in the right direction, and de-escalate arguments before they turn into problems. When something needs a punishment, they pass it to a Mod rather than handing it out themselves.

Go to a Guide if you're stuck, confused about a command, or just not sure where to start.

#Mod

Moderators enforce the rules. They use the punishment tools on their own judgement for things like spam, harassment, griefing and cheating, always following the same escalation steps (see Punishments). They also work the ticket queue on Discord, so most reports and appeals reach a Mod first.

If a Mod thinks one of their own punishments was a mistake, they can ask for it to be reviewed and lifted.

#SrMod

Senior moderators act as the second opinion. When a punishment is questioned, or a Mod asks for one to be lifted, a SrMod reviews the original reason and decides whether it stands. They never review their own punishments, so another staff member always looks at it.

#Admin

Admins run the network. On top of everything above, they:

  • handle the most serious cases, including permanent punishments and IP bans
  • look after the server's economy and bank systems
  • review staff applications and promotions
  • oversee the rest of the team, and handle disputes between staff

Anything involving threats, doxxing or illegal content goes straight to an Admin.

#How staff treat players

Staff follow the same rules they enforce, plus a few more:

  • Fair and consistent. The same rule applies to everyone, including friends of staff.
  • Evidence first. Staff look at your record and the facts before acting, and punishments follow the published steps, so you can see what comes next.
  • Private. Chat logs, reports and punishment history are only for staff doing their job, and never shared outside the team.
  • No misuse. Staff aren't allowed to give themselves items, spy on players without a reason, or use their access for personal gain. Doing so means removal from the team.
  • Reports are anonymous. If you report someone, the player you reported never learns who you are.

#What you should know

  • If staff freeze you, stay online. A freeze stops you moving and chatting while staff check something. Logging out while frozen to avoid it is treated as ban evasion and gets you banned.
  • Staff can look into a report. To investigate, they can look at a player's inventory and ender chest, and restore items after a dupe, grief or death dispute.
  • Never pay or give items to staff for ranks or favours. Real staff will never ask.
  • Don't ask staff about the status of an application or report. It's reviewed in turn, and nagging doesn't help.
  • Disagree with a decision? Open a ticket or appeal on Discord rather than arguing in chat. See Punishments.

#Want to join the team?

We take staff applications on our staff site, staff.blockville.org. It helps to have a good amount of playtime, a clean record, and a habit of helping other players. The Guide role is the way in, and Guides can apply for promotion later.
