Seeds of Plenty

Farmer Barley's storyline - 12 tiers, from overgrown fields to the Harvest Festival, ending with the Head Farmer title.

Seeds of Plenty is the town storyline given by Farmer Barley at the farm. Barley's granddad kept a vault of rare seeds - tomatoes, garlic and rice - until a flock of crows broke in last winter and scattered them, and the farm went wild. The player brings the fields back to life, finds the lost seeds one by one, runs errands for the town and wins the Harvest Festival contest to become Head Farmer.

#Starting

The storyline starts with a conversation: clicking Barley the first time plays his story, page by page, and the last Continue starts the storyline (Not now leaves it for later). Once it has started, its current step is shown in the objective bar at the top of the screen and in /quests, and a marker points to any place or townsperson the step needs.

Seeds of Plenty is the only way to unlock Blockville's custom crops: tomatoes at tier 2, garlic at tier 8 and rice at tier 12, each with 8 seeds to start.

#Crow Watch

Halfway through the storyline the crows come back for the pumpkin patch. Once the tier's pumpkins and melons are in, clicking Barley offers Crow Watch: the player is taken to his greenhouse and has 30 seconds to keep the crows off his crops.

  • Crows fly in from above the edge of the field and dive at the ripe crops. A punch or an arrow sends one packing.
  • A crow that reaches its crop pecks it to bits - a strike. Three strikes and the crows have won; the round can be tried again a minute later.
  • More crows come as the clock runs down. Last out the 30 seconds and the patch is saved.

The round is the player's own: nobody else sees their crows, and the greenhouse is back to normal afterwards. Chased off the patch, the crows fly straight to the old windmill - where the next tier picks up.

#The Harvest Rush

Tier 12 is the Harvest Festival contest. Clicking Barley on tier 12 offers it: the player is taken to a greenhouse of their own and has 60 seconds to harvest every ripe crop in it. Other players can't see them during the round. Running out of time ends the round - clicking Barley again starts a new one. A win takes the player back to the farm, where Barley finds the last of his granddad's seeds. Once Seeds of Plenty is finished, Barley offers the Harvest Rush again for fun - replays pay nothing but keep a best time.

#Barley's Almanac

/almanac (or the Almanac button when talking to Barley) opens a guide to the crops he has taught so far: wheat, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, beetroot, pumpkins, melons, garlic and rice. Each page shows how to plant the crop, the ground it needs, a growing tip and dishes that can be cooked with it. Crops not reached yet show as locked.
